The kids and I have been lucky enough to get our hands on Sun Scholars, a 12 week summer learning program designed by stay at home mama, Rachel Harwood. Let me tell you what I love about Sun Scholars:
- there are 12 fun weekly themes like Animal Fun, Beach Party, and Hocus Pocus
- it integrates many subject areas, especially math, reading, and writing
- it is well organized with printable half-page activity cards
- it’s simple and easy to implement the activities
- tons of printables make it easy to get started immediately
- it can be easily adjusted to various age levels
- you can follow along for the entire 12 weeks or pick and choose fun activities as you’d like to do them
They picked out a small spiral bound journal. I had the kids draw a picture of the person (in this case their dad) on the left hand page. And then I cut out the address part of the provided printable for Sawyer to write down the address and paste onto the right hand page.
We’re going to add a few new people and addresses to it each week. It will be great writing practice for Sawyer throughout the summer. And we can use it to also send letters and artwork to our family. YAY!

ReplyDeleteI love to get my kids out in the summer. Walk around and enjoy the outdoors - it is a great learning experience for them and keeps then in tip top shape for the start of school in the fall!!
ReplyDeleteHaving my kiddos home during the summer is a perfect time to practice summer-schooling. I graduated in Elementary Education and love to create lessons and themes, and now that I'm a full-time mom the summertime is a perfect time to do so with my kids! We do lots of day trips around our city & learn about the history of the area, we pick topics that we want to study more about and never seem to have the time for during the school year. We love the hands-on learning which keeps them busy & entertained during our summer days!

ReplyDeleteMy 4 year old son loves working on my computer. I signed him up for our local library system's Summer Reading Program. He was able to create an avatar of himself and will keep track of books he reads and provide reviews for other readers.

ReplyDeleteWe read constantly over the summer! We go to the library often and take part in all of the Summer Reading Programs. My daughter also loves to do workbooks and play school.

I try to do home schooling over the summer. I let my daughter pick topics she is curious about and we get books from the library and research online. I also make sure we join the library reading program and activities they offer.
ReplyDeleteWe love to spend our summer at the pool, doing science experiments, attending library programs, visiting museums, and hanging out with friends.
