Sawyer knows all of his alphabet by name. He has for some time, but he doesn't know all of the sounds or the lowercase letters yet. Priscilla is just now singing her ABC song, but can't point out any letters yet. So I've decided to start focusing on one letter of the alphabet each week with my little ones to get them on the path to reading. After doing some research on teaching phonics (here), I started this week with the letter "S." I found so much more inspiration in planning activities with having a letter to focus on. And I found it easier to find teachable moments in our everyday activities, too. I will do a couple of posts about our "S WEEK," but today, check out how we connected it to the SNOW (before it all melts away...).
Priscilla dressed up her magnet doll for the Snowy Season of Winter.
Sawyer and Priscilla both LOVED playing with snow inside where it's warm with their Snow Sensory Box.
We added some rocks and couple carrots so that they could make Mini Indoor Snowmen.
And finally, today, cousin Gracie joined us in making cute Snowman Oreo Cookie Pops!
We got the idea from The Idea Room, but made a few changes, like more cookies, candy, and coconut.
As you can see, Priscilla LOVED adding the coconut and candy!
We'll check in next week to show you the fun activities we did with SNAKES!

Awww, very cute! Great activities for snow!
ReplyDeleteJessy - Weekly Wrap-up
I love the idea of bringing the snow inside for a sensory box. Unfortunately, all our snow is melted, so I'll have to wait until next year to do it.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! Looks like a ton of fun!
ReplyDelete@sarahssweeties: thanks for stopping by! We did have lots of fun. Just wait until you see the fun they had with the SNAKEs, though! :)
ReplyDelete@Lizzie: My kids are kind of wimpy when it comes to the cold. They don't last long outside. And as you can see, they begged for mittens right away even when inside! So it was fun!
