Are all kids as obsessed as mine with all of the colorful sugar-laden cereals? Well I try to steer them toward healthier options, but they often still wind up coming home with them when I send Cliff and the kids for groceries. Here’s one trick I’ve come up with to make them a bit healthier and more fun, too! Add a banana and make Fruity Banana Bites!
You’ll only need two ingredients:
- Bananas
- Fruity Pebbles Cereal (or other kids’ cereals)
Here’s what you do:
- Have the kids practice their fine motor and cutting skills by cutting the bananas into bite size (or larger) pieces with a dull butter knife.
- Let the kids dip the cut ends of the banana pieces into a bowl of the cereal to get the cereal to stick to the banana.
- Try using other kids’ cereals! Maybe try crushing it up first in a plastic bag so that it sticks better.
Do your kiddos like sugary cereal? Do you let them have it? If not, what do they have for breakfast instead?

Cohen is obsessed with Post Great Grains cereal (the one with only pecans). It's pretty healthy so I'm happy. As far as I know, he hasn't ever had a sugary cereal so he doesn't know what he's missing (yet!) He HAS figured out soda pop, candy, fruit snacks, and chocolate milk though! So we definitely aren't at all perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis is a terrific idea! I'll have to try this with my grandkids. I think the little ones would really get into it!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love to do this with regular rice krispies! We stick half the banana on a craft stick, dip in yogurt, and then in the cereal. They would love to use Fruity Pebbles Cereal, though!
