10 Ways for Kids to Celebrate Independence Day

With Independence Day just around the corner, I thought it’d be fun to brainstorm ways for even the littlest ones to be patriotic for the holiday.  Here are 10 ways children can celebrate the fourth of July.

Kids Independence Day Collage

1. Have a Party
Invite some kiddie friends over for some patriotic fun and games.  Give kids red, white and blue sand buckets filled with fun and patriotic favors like these ones from Kami Buchanan.

2. Decorate the House
Give the kids some scissors, glue, and red, white, and blue paper to make some easy patriotic decorations like this paper chain from A Pumpkin and a Princess.

3. Play with a Sensory Bin
Fill a bin with some red, white, and blue glitter, rice, pom-poms or other items and let even the littlest ones explore with their sense of touch.  See an example of a patriotic sensory bin from Counting Coconuts.

4. Make a Treat
Turn your favorite treat into a patriotic one by adding some red, white, and blue, or starts.  Find an easy recipe for stained glass jello at Brown Eyed Baker.

5. Dress Up
Use some simple crafting skills and supplies to make funny Fourth of July hats, like this one from No Ordinary Moments.

6. Have a Picnic
Keep it low key by spending time outside with friends and family having a picnic. Find inspiration at Sparkling Events.

7. Do a Craft
Get messy and have fun with some red, white, and blue art supplies. Find out how to make a patriotic handprint at B-Inspired Mama.

8. Learn about Independence Day
Learn the history behind the holiday.  Find printables and more July Fourth learning ideas at 1 + 1 + 1 = 1.

9. Have a Parade
Go to a parade or make your own by turning the kids wagon into an Independence Day parade float.  Find ideas and inspiration at Family Fun.

10. Decorate Your Bike
Help the kids turn their bicycle patriotic with these free Fourth of July printable decorations at Martha Stewart.

How do you and your kids celebrate July 4th?

  6. Great ideas. I used to love to decorate our bikes as a child. We would have a parade and ride the bikes in it. There was also a contest for the best bike at the summer camp. Found memories.
