DIY Mama: 16 Easy to Sew Gifts for Kids

I always have big plans to make hand made Christmas gifts for my kids.  But when it gets right down to it, I rarely find the time before the holidays.  This year, I’m trying to start earlyvery early – and create some easy to sew gifts while the kids are on vacation with their dad.

I had the perfect motivation when I came across Precious Patterns on Etsy.  Precious Patterns is full of affordable easy to follow patterns for handmade kids toys, clothes, bibs, and aprons.

DIY Animal Pillows

Mary and Sara from Precious Patterns were so sweet to send me the stuffed animal pattern to make these cool giraffe, elephant, and hippo pillows for the kiddos.  It’s the first time I’ve sewn from a pattern download, and I was pleasantly surprised.  I loved the step by step instructions and clear photos.  I decided to make the hippo purple since that will be for J.C.  And I used blue polka dot fabric for the inside of Mr. Elephant’s ears since he will be Sawyer’s.  I went for white and black buttons for the eyes instead of fabric applique like the pattern suggested.  I think they’re full of personality, and I know the kids will love them.

Do you make hand made Christmas gifts for kids?  If so, here are some to try with simple patterns from Precious Patterns.

  1. I like the kitty, puppy, bunny and bear set. I am a beginner on the sewing maching and I think, I think I can make these. I am also going to be a new grandma for the first time so these might be a good project for me. Thanks for the link.
