Definition of Motherhood [From the Mouths of Moms]

Can’t find time to read all of those parenting books and magazines?  Don’t have a lot of mommy friends to bounce ideas off of?  Kids go crazy every time you get on the phone to ask a friend their advice?  No problem; I’ll do the work for you!

Every Thursday I bring you kid-tested parenting tips for a specific parenting challenge “from the mouths of moms.”  This week I really challenged our mamas.  I asked then for their personal definition of motherhood.  Here’s what they said…

The Definition of Motherhood

[From the Mouths of Moms]

Being Selfless
“The greatest act of love and selflessness. The most challenging yet rewarding experience of my life.” Allison from Train Up A Child

Understanding the Meaning of Life and Love
“Motherhood brings you closer to understanding the meaning of life and love and what makes the world go 'round. It directly connects you with other human beings from the past, present, and future, which is something I never anticipated while frivolously choosing baby blankets, mobiles, and little pink onesies before my first child was born.” Chrissy from The Outlaw Mom

Guiding, Learning, Humbling
“Motherhood is the opportunity to guide and learn beside a child as they grow in age and wisdom. It is also the opportunity to open your heart in a new way to a very special kind of love. Oh! and an avenue to learning to be humble.” Deirdre from JDainel4’s Mom

Teaching and Loving
“Motherhood is the greatest journey of teaching and loving something you created, more than you could ever imagine!! Even in the hard times they always seem to do something to make you laugh and forget it about it.” Catherine from Momma’s Fun World

Worrying
“Taking pride in achievements so small as to be imperceptible to anyone else; Worrying about statistically impossible scenarios; Delighting in the tiniest smile.” The Monko from Taming the Goblin

Reliving Childhood
“Motherhood is the opportunity to return to the beginning; To become a child again. A mother gets to relive the awe and wonder of childhood through her own little ones only she has the hindsight to know just how precious and fleeting it is the second time around. We live vicariously through them and in that we are born again.” Crystal from Growing a Jeweled Rose

Messy yet Perfect
“Motherhood, to me, is the realization of a dream that is better than I ever imagined. It’s crying on the stairs in the middle of the night because your side of the bed is now drenched in a mixture of pee and spit up and your brain can’t figure out how to fix that problem. And then laughing because you realize you wanted every last messy bit with all your heart. And now you have it. And it’s perfect.” Kristin from Call Me Kristin

  2. You know, there are days or times I curse being a mother when I am at my wit's end, children screaming, house a mess, not a wink of sleep, but it's been the best thing ever and I wouldn't trade it :-)
