Mama Knows Best: For Mothers From Mothers [Deirdre from JDaniel4’s Mom]

Mama Knows Best ButtonOne thing I’ve learned from the popular From the Mouths of Moms parenting tips series is that every mom, child, and family is different.  And each mom assesses their own unique experiences, values, and circumstances to make the best parenting decisions possible for their own child and family.  Each mother knows best and tries to do her best for her child.

So why not share and learn from one another; moms helping moms.  Every Tuesday, I spotlight one mama and her “best” tips for mothers on parenting advice, resources, and products.  This week I’m happy to introduce you to one of my long-time favorite creative mamas, Deirdre from JDaniel4’s Mom

Mama Knows Best

Deirdre from JDaniel4’s Mom

I love to read lists of people favorite things. They lead me to wonderful new products and resources. I hope after reading through my list of favorites you will find a few new things that you will love.

Best Pregnancy or Birth Advice
My best advice is to ask for help if you need it for whatever you need it for. It could be meals, someone to watch your baby so you can take a nap, or even just to come and sit by you.

Best Parenting Website
We went all of the internet searching for resources when Jdaniel was a baby. We found a lot of wonderful advice on WebMD on nursing, establishing sleep routines, and more.

Best Blog for Moms
I can’t really pick one. I visit many different websites for different aspects of being a mom. The Kid’s Activity Blog (formerly Quirky Momma) and The Activity Mom are activity blogs I have followed for over three years. Things I Can’t Say is a wonderful blog that focuses on a mom and her three boys. I love her honest style of writing.

Best Baby Product
I loved my Boppy. It was used for nursing and for helping my son recline on the floor. We took it everywhere.

Best Parenting Advice
My best advice is to trust what you and your husband feel in your gut is right for your family. If you don’t know or need direction, seek out mentors that can guide you. Older moms, senior saints or even neighbors who have been parents have great advice.

Best Children’s Book
We read Good Night Moon dozens of times when Jdaniel was little. The rhythm of the book and the pictures drew him into the book. After awhile, I started reading it in funny voices to keep my son and I entertained.. My son loved that.

Best Kids' Toy
My son’s favorite toy has always been a box. He loves when we get packages in the mail. The box the contains the item we have ordered maybe become a castle, a tractor or anything under the sun really.

Best Kids’ Game
We love hide and go seek. Sometimes it is a member of the family that hides and sometimes it is a stuffed animal. Either way we have a great time seeking what has been hidden.

Best Kids’ Craft
We love creating sculptures right now at my house. All kinds of treasures (junk), boxes, and toys can be part of a large sculpture.

Best Outdoor Play Idea
We have had the best time playing outdoor when we drag some toys from the garage or from indoors and create pretend play activities or games around them.

Best Way to Stay Organized
I have to keep lists of the things I need to do and when I need to do them. Then I have to keep track of the lists.

Best Way to Keep a Happy Relationship or Marriage
I think respect is key to a happy marriage. I try to show my husband how much I a value his opinions and thoughts by asking him what he thinks of things going during the day. He loves to be included in things that we do even if he has to miss them while he is at work.

Best Family Outing or Vacation
My family loves to go to the beach in the fall. We head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina every September and spend time in the sand and water. We love to walk on the beach and collect shells as well as jump waves in the sea.

Best Family Meal or Recipe
My guys love homemade lasagna and spaghetti. I think they could eat them every other day. We use a lot of ground turkey at our house and it’s featured in both of their favorite dishes.

Best Behavior Management or Discipline Tip
My best discipline tip is to think through what you say you are going to do if your children misbehaves because you are going to have to follow through with it. If you don’t, they will start to question whether your promises of discipline are hollow.

Best Way to Spend a Mommy Moment
I love to  sit with a cup of tea and read. I may read blog posts, books, or cookbooks. I love to read new recipes.
